What is Rubidium Chloride used for?

Rubidium chloride is the mostly used rubidium compound, and finds use in various fields ranging from electrochemistry to molecular biology.
As a catalyst and additive in gasoline, Rubidium chloride is used to improve its octane number.
It has also been employed to prepare molecular nanowires for nanoscale devices. Rubidium chloride has been shown to alter the coupling between circadian oscillators via reduction of light input to the suprachiasmatic nucleus.
Rubidium chloride is an excellent non-invasive biomarker. The compound dissolves well in water and can readily be taken up by organisms. Rubidium chloride transformation for competent cells is arguably the compound’s most abundant use.
